Article

Here is an article from Korea about their new 119 system. (Get it? 911, 119? hehe)

Korea launches ubiquitous 119 rescue system
Date: September 10, 2008
Korea's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will introduce an advanced "119" rescue service in cooperation with regional emergency management agencies and related government organizations.

U-119 control centerThe state-emergency management body invested 2.8 trillion won last October to build and stabilize a so-called ubiquitous 119 or (u-119) service system which provides prompt rescue service countrywide by using the Internet. The number 119 comes from the phone number Koreas call in case of emergency.

The u-119 system consists of the nationwide u-safety call system and "Help Me 119 Service" for expatriates and seniors currently being operated by regional emergency management agencies in Incheon, Gyeonggi-do (Gyeonggi Province) and Jeollanam-do (South Jeolla Province), and the automatic 119 report service which is currently being test run in 100 farming houses in South Jeolla Province.

By visiting the u-safety call service website (click here), patients, seniors or their guardians can register personal details, including residential address, medical history and contact numbers of people in case of emergency for free medical assistance and life-saving service.

Once a 119 rescue center receives any kind of emergency reports from those who are registered, the center sends personal information to its rescue workers so that they can quickly mobilize to the address of the registered person and provide more effective first-aid or other medical assistance to save his or her life.

To provide an improved rescue service, NEMA will also sign a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Justice and Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) and hold a ceremony Wednesday to mark the launch of its u-119 service countrywide.

Through signing the MOU, the Justice Ministry's help centers for foreigners (phone number: 1345), KTO's tourism information call center (phone number: 1330) and the Before Babel Brigade, volunteer interpreting center, will cooperate with the u-119 service by providing language services for expatriates.

The state emergency management body aims to expand its "Help Me 119 Service" currently being run in Incheon and South Jeolla Province to countrywide.

Based on the country's world-leading IT technology and infrastructure, NEMA further plans to develop a ubiquitous IT system that supports emergency response services and export its u-119 service.

Korea, Asia's fourth-largest economy, is one of the world's most wired countries, where more than three-quarters of homes have high-speed Internet access.

The Summer

Hello, everyone! Sorry that I haven't been posting lately. I've been very, very busy.

I wanted to start off the post with some announcements. First off, my first marching contest for band is next saturday! I'm excited but scared at the same time. I'm especially worried about mess-ups. But I've been able to push all of that away seconds before we start. We just finished learning the last movement of Scheherazade, our show-piece. Secondly, my birthday is next Friday! I'll be 15! Hooray for growing up. I may start learning how to drive (scary, huh) after my birthday, but for now, it's at a standstill.

Now for the summer. I took a pretty exciting vacation to Chicago and Wisconsin to stay with one of the family's friends. It was so different in Wisconsin. It's actually sort of cool there, even in the middle of the summer! Chicago was a little different. It was very muggy and uncomfortably warm. But we had an awesome time there. The house we stayed in was 4 stories tall! It had a basement and 3 floors. Everything was at least 90 years old, and they had a dog that was a trooper! Hunley had had cancer and radiation performed upon him. Ouch is all that I can say.

Then we went to Schlitterbahn with our small group, just Marshall, Me, JJ (Youth Group Leader that hugs we WAY too tightly) and had a blast (no pun intended). I rode the Master Blaster and the other 2.

Well, that's all I have to say. Please comment!

Marching Band - And Other News

I'm so happy! Marching Band was one of the best at Jamboree! And to make it better, I performed at a personal level much better than the 2 games before. For the game on Thursday, I was a tiny bit worse, but still was very accurate. Also, I fixed a problem with my clarinet, making it SO much easier to play. It's a good time right now.

Schoolwork continues to get harder as I get into the year, but I am determined to get it right and do my homework.

I am so excited to work at Davis DolphinFest this year! High Schoolers get so many more abilites when they get to work there! I really want to sign up, but there are still no forms in the office. I will contact the coordinator instead.

Well, that's all I have. Talk to you all later!

The Cutest, Sweetest, Wildest Puppy Ever

Here's my much spoken about puppy:

Good Morning

Good, Morning! I am going to church in a few minutes, but have enough time to post a little more about myself. This is about my political and religious side. I believe strongly in the Republican ideals, but not so much in some people who call themselves Republicans but are really Democrats. I'm not talking about Bush, because although he has made a few big mistakes, I believe that he has been a much better president than some. *Cough Clinton Cough* I really want McCain to win the election, but not just because he's a Republican. I think that Obama has some of the most dangerous ideas to the country around, next to Hillary Clinton. The second reason is Palin. She wants to get rid of abortion! (And if you want to yell at me about that, just e-mail me.) And although her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant out of wedlock, that's just the thing to show that her family can hold together in tough times. She's just the VP we need.

Now my religious side. I go to CCC (Christ Community Church). It's off of 183 and past Oak Knoll, and is a great church (at least to me). We have the most wonderful pastor and Youth ministry there. I have kind of grown away from all of the Youth stuff and toward the minister's sermons, but I still like hanging out with my Youth ministers. One of them, whose name is JJ, has a new baby! I'll put the picture on the blog eventually along with a picture of him.

Here's some facts about 2 of my Youth ministers: The lead minister, Brett, tried to commit suicide before coming to church.
When JJ hugs me, he squeezes the life out of me (I'll put a picture of that up later)
Brett played college football and played one season of professional before he got injured.

Well, there's your interesting facts. That's all the time I have for today!

Bye!

This Is Me

Hey, everyone! If anyone here does not know me, my full name is David August Geyer. I am 14 and will be 15 on September 26. I totally love my little puppy, Chloe, and if I could have any animal in the world, even though it's extinct, I would have a platypus. I am very busy at school and can only see my life getting busier. I am in Leadership Council, German Club, the Trojan Marching Band, and the Robotics Team. I play First Person Shooter games on the computer, walk the sweetest puppy in the WORLD, and have a Petsitting/Housesitting/Lawn Watering business with my brother.

Speaking of my brother, I have 3 other family members with me. Marshall, my brother, is 13. He is in 8th grade and his birthday is in April. He loves to make straight A's, and wants to be an actor or singer when he gets older. My sister, Catherine, is 9 and in 4th grade. Her birthday is in December. She absolutely loves listening to Hannah Montana and, for some reason, really likes to go to the dentist. My mother, Claudia, is *9 and has a birthday in August. She has gotten her arm really badly injured by her cousin's dog, and if she had $10000, would take her entire family to Hawaii! Amazing, right? =]

At school, I have Mr. Schwarz's 3rd period Pre-AP Biology Class, Ms. Cribbs's Teen Leadership and Pre-AP Algebra class (5th and 2nd period), Ms. Hollrah's 8th period Pre-AP World Geography class, and Ms. Devaney's 6th period Pre-AP English class. I take German from Frau (Mrs.) Lesher, and am in her 7th period 2nd Year German class. I have Band (Wind Ensemble, highest band) 1st period with Mr. Zysk, and have Marching Band at Zero Hour (7:30 in the morning to 8:30) and on Mondays from 5 P.M.-7 P.M. It's probable that I will be going to Koblenz, Germany in the summer of 2010 (I will be an incoming Junior), and will be getting a German Exchange student in March of 2009.

I have some totally awesome friends in Marching Band and in all of my classes; they are really nice to me and are making me better in my classes and in Band.

Here are some interesting facts: I don't drink sodas and have never had an addiction.
I have ridden a Segway before. (They are the most awesome thing in the world; you ride past someone and feel on top of the world - no pun intended).
I started playing clarinet in 5th grade - usually everyone starts in 6th grade.
I am known by everyone as a total teacher's pet.

My Room

To start my debut of Austin, I will first put up some pictures starting at home: My Room!
It's very tidy now, but you should have seen it before I cleaned it!

Marching Band

Oh, My, GOSH! Marching Band did so badly last night. I made one of the most major mistakes in the band, but I have heard from other people that they did not so well, too. Mainly Freshmen. We have Jamboree on Tuesday (a whole bunch of bands get together and watch each other march), and I really hope that I don't mess up there. Wish me luck!
